Banksy Truck To Fetch £1.5m In Auction
How much would you be willing to pay for a 1988 Volvo FL6? Not much, I’m sure. Well, this HGV is a little different and is expected to fetch more than £1.5 million in action later this month! You see, this lorry, which would normally fetch around £1,000, was painted by the legendary graffiti artist Banksy when he was relatively unknown.
The decorative Volvo lorry is due to go on sale at Bonhams in Goodwood, Surrey, on September 14 and is expected to become one of the most expensive trucks in the world.
The 17-ton lorry is set to be the star attraction at the classic car auction, which is set to feature a 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT and a 1935 Bugatti Type 57. Banksy created the piece of art at the turn of the millennium after being commissioned by the Turbozone International Circus to celebrate the dawn of a new era. It reportedly took the famed street artist two weeks to complete the operation and was used by the TIC to tour Europe and South Africa.
Of course, this is not the first time Banksy has painted a vehicle that has gone up for auction. In 2016 a SWAT van he created for a show in LA sold in London for £218,500. However, it looks as though this Volvo creation will dwarf that.
There’s no denying that Banksy certainly created an eye-catching piece of art, but you don’t have to spend seven-figures in order to buy a good looking and effective lorry. At Mac’s Trucks we have a selection of quality new and used trucks for sale. Whether you are after a Mercedes-Benz box van, removal van, DAF flatbed truck or crane lorry, we have a first class vehicle for you at our Huddersfield base.
